My approach to teaching

Many dancers teach from necessity.

My delighted surprise was, and is, discovering a passion and joy in teaching—the incomparable beauty of Ballet, the sinuous mystery of Bellydance, the brain teasing lead-and-follow of the Argentine Tango, and the healing essence beyond the physical poses of Yoga.

A generation of dancers, including myself, came from an era of teaching that modeled harsh critique, fostered self-doubt and extreme competitiveness. I vowed I would be a different type of teacher whether it be Ballet or Bellydance, Tango or Yoga.

My lifelong goals are to:

  • Impart kindness in the classroom

  • Raise the self-esteem of each student regardless of age, body size or shape

  • Encourage friendship instead of rivalries

  • Infuse enthusiasm and respect for the art form

  • Model, by physical demonstration and carefully-crafted directions, the precision and musicality of elegant technique

  • Build for my students an impeccable technical foundation intertwined with fun and the intangible joy of dance

I have been fortunate to teach and choreograph for a broad range of students: small children, teens, college students, pre-professional and professionals, adult beginners and Seniors—which leads me to happily believe in the phrase...

DANCE INTO ETERNITY
